The starting point

What needed solving.

The background

K.Dyna is a property rental platform in Cape Verde with a concierge service, currently in the design phase. The islands covered are Sal and Boa Vista.

The constraint

Booking accommodation 4,500 kilometres away, in a country you do not know, from a provider you have only just discovered: every step is a chance to give up. Conversion depends entirely on removing doubt — does the property exist, who answers on the ground, what happens if something goes wrong.

The response

Make the on-site service as visible as the property. The concierge service is not an option at the end of the funnel: it is the product. Each listing shows the local team, response times and the extras available. The property gets booked because the service reassures.

Design & art direction

Every design choice, and the reason for it.

  1. The service before the property

Airport pick-up, cleaning, repairs, activities: the concierge service is presented on the same level as the accommodation. It is what sets the platform apart from a listing on a general-purpose site.

  2. Filters by island

Sal and Boa Vista are two very different destinations. Visitors choose an island first, then a property: that is the real order of the decision.

  3. Honest photography

Wide, unretouched shots, the immediate surroundings shown, distance to the beach stated. In remote rentals, a flattering photo leads to a dispute on arrival.

Engineering

What's under the bonnet.

  • Next.js

  • Supabase
  1. Availability in a database

An availability calendar per property, locking at the moment of booking, management of extras. Double booking is the costliest incident a rental platform can have.

  2. Partitioning by owner

Row-level access policies: each owner sees only their own properties and bookings.

Search engine optimisation

How the site makes itself findable.

  1. Destination searches

“Villa rental Sal Cape Verde”, “Boa Vista apartment with concierge”. Search visibility is built island by island, then by property type.

Method

How the project unfolded.

  1. Scoping

Removing doubt identified as the one real challenge.

  2. Design

Service in the foreground, filters by island.

  3. In progress

    Availability, booking, owners' area.

Questions

What we are often asked.

Because properties can be found anywhere and the service can be found nowhere else. It is the only thing that justifies booking here rather than on a global platform.
